Legality: We act and carry our business under the Brazilian legislation. Maresias Hostel issues invoices for all its products and serves, bears the due Operating License with the City Hall of São Sebastião, and employs its staff according to the applicable laws in force.
Safety Against Fire: Maresias Hostel keeps an up-to-date Inspection Report issued by the Fire Department, as well as the respective protocols of Re-inspection, when necessary. The Inspection Report requires the existence of hydrants in all areas of the Hostel, fire extinguishers, emergency signaling, fire alarm, and smoke detectors in all apartments.
Quality: Maresias Hostel is a Hostelling International member. This international entity is the world’s largest network in the segment of hostels, and demands a great deal of quality in the services offered by its affiliated members. We undergo annual inspections where items such as safety, hygiene, receptivity, and environmental and social commitment are evaluated.
UNESCO: A Memorandum was elaborated between UNESCO and the Hostelling International on April 1, 2003, turning all Hostels into "Centers of Peaceful Culture". This "Memorandum" acknowledges the role of this type of lodging in the formation of a more tolerant and peaceful human being. Ever since, we proudly wave the UNESCO flag, a symbol of our search for a better world and better future.
Recycling: Maresias Hostel adopts and stimulates the recycling of the waste produced by the Hostel and the Hostel Bar. For such, we provide 16 special, colored bins, in addition to the dispensers for organic waste. We also have a specific container for the collection of food oil and another container for batteries. Our outdoor bins are separated so that the collectors of the City Hall may work in a cleaner and more efficient way.
Environmental Commitment: A total of 60% of the wood and other materials used in the construction and restoration of the Maresias Hostel is recycled or from demolition. Take a walk around the Hostel and see how many ambiences and rooms have been created with this type of material. Besides, we always use efficient lamps and flushing systems that reduce water consumption.
Accessibility: Maresias Hostel meets the brasiliian laws applicable to buildings accessible to the disabled, based on standard ABNT NBR 9050. We count on a special room for this important type of service.
Security: We count on several security cameras spread in the entire social area, recording 24 hours a day. Our reception also works 24 hours a day, in addition to a night watcher for the other areas. Everyone lodging with the Maresias Hostel must wear our personalized identification bracelet for controlling the flow of guests in and out. Our employees are trained to deal with our customers’ belongings and undergo a strict selective process, allowing a highly secure and safe environment.
Social Liability: Maresias Hostel supports project “Mareginga”, in Maresias. This project aims at serving needy children of the region, offering Capoeira classes and other activities. As a form of compensation, the project follows-up the school attendance of such children and youths.
